Groms Charge Hard at Gromfest
It was a perfect day on the hill for the annual Dynastar CHILL Gromfest, held Saturday 24th July at Porters. Shifting forward from September, then main benefit was the snow - fresh and dry, it made for an awesome comp, including freeride through the Leaper and freestyle in the Community Park, McNulty's basin.

With such perfect conditions, the mountain was frantic with action, and a delayed start was forced by some 'over-eager' members of the public who managed to de-rail T-3, setting back the kick-off for the event by 30 mins. Scotty to the rescue, and we were back underway for course inspection after a 30 min wait. Awesome riding by all competitors, from the ultra groms under 6 years, to the more confident and progressive 15 year olds, it was great to watch.

After a successful morning, and something to eat, the competitors decended on the Porters Community Park, still currently based in McNultiy's Basin, slightly higher on the hill to take advantage of more snow, sun, and great natural terrain including the natural banks of McNulty's pipe. After some practice time, each competitor received two runs through the park to impress the judges and make the most of the 8 or so features on offer in the comp course. All competitors gave it their all, and a tight contest was eventually comcluded before prize giving in the cafe at Porters.

After a long day on the slopes in perfect but brisk weather, time to relax in the cafe with a hot choc and something to eat while judges tabulated the results - the big screen rolling ski vids to keep the crew happy. Everything came through, and a very tight set of results. Great to see so many young rippers pushing it, and enjoying their skiing and riding.
