Porters Snowfeed - 29th July

KIA ORA,

Winter is cranking at Porters. As the snow continues to fall, the skiing just gets better and better. This week it even got good enough to get Uli out and about to do a little product testing and the result speaks for itself, "I had my best powder day this afternoon. Skied Bluff and Big Mama and... unbelievable." When the boss says that it was unbelievable, it really means it's good! The shot below taken the following day by Bernie Wicht of Macpac outside the ski area boundary in Crystal Valley. Looks good, huh....

Crystal Valley - outside the ski are boundary, and unpatrolled - Bernie Wicht

This week the skiing has been unreal, and as the snow remains super cool, the best winter snow is on offer right now. Make sure you get out and make the most of it while you can. Latest info and imagery from the hill, check it out below.

FROM THE MOUNTAIN

It's been a busy week on the mountain, with fresh snow refreshing the snowpack and keeping the road crew busy, and temps keeping the snowmakers on their toes. The snow pack on the lower mountain continues to improve, with natural and man-made snow offering supreme piste conditions. Check out these shots from the 29th July, the team are cranking out some awesome product at the moment, thanks to Luke for the images.

It's been a busy time on the hill. I managed to get out and about on Thursday and put together this video report for you. Check out the latest info from what's happening on the slopes, and some footage from an avalanche course held on the mountain on Thursday. Click the image below to view.

GROMFEST RESULTS

It was a perfect day on the hill for the annual Dynastar CHILL Gromfest, held Saturday 24th July at Porters. Shifting forward from September, then main benefit was the snow - fresh and dry, it made for an awesome comp, including freeride through the Leaper and freestyle in the Community Park, McNulty's basin. To check out more information and all results from the day, jump online to our website for the full wrap up.

FREERIDE TEAM - SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTION

The Porters Freeride Team, proudly sponsored by Gnomes Snow Shop, Surfanic and Armada, had a busy school holiday period training hard and progressing their skills. Click the image below to check out the action from the holidays... Big thanks to Leigh Edwards (Freeride coach) for putting the video together.

SAFETY ON THE SLOPES

Staying safe on the slopes is of utmost importance to all mountain users, and Ski Area management. Alpine environments can be challenging at times, though with effective safety consideration and operations, they can be fun as well as safe. We thought we'd take a moment to pass on a little knowledge and some recommendations that may help make your ski or snowboard experience safer, and more enjoyable.
