Welcome to Porters 2010. We're now accepting applications for employment opportunities at Porters for the upcoming winter season.
We offer a fun and enjoyable team atmosphere at Porters, and strive to achieve the highest levels of service for our customers. If you enjoy mixing challenging and fulfilling work with the appropriate balance of play-time (skiing and boarding) then Porters could be for you.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
Porters Ski Area employs 50 staff during the winter season, which runs from late June to the beginning of October. We also have part time positions for the July holidays and weekends.

We require team players who are dedicated and provide our customers with the best possible service & experience. You need to be energetic and positive, be able to work under pressure, love the outdoors and its challenging environment. Working at a ski area should be seen as a life style rather than a place where you earn a lot of money.
PORTERS SKI AREA EMPLOYMENT
27 June to 10 October 2010
Ticket Seller
Need to be experienced in cash handling, daily reconciliations of takings and banking.
Lift Operator & Ticket Checker
Applicants must be competent skier/boarder, enjoy working with the public and have a tidy appearance.
Rental Fitter / Ski Technician
With experience in repairing & tuning ski & snowboard equipment. Pleasant outgoing manner with a tidy appearance required for busy hire service.
Ski or Snowboard Instructors / Qualified Ski Race Coaches
With Qualification NZ Stage One as minimum requirement. Full or part-time positions. Overseas Instructors must have ISIA qualification.
Snowmakers
Must be able to work varied shifts and be flexible. The ability to work in a cold & harsh environment is essential, as is physical fitness. Previous experience with machinery is preferred.
Grader Operator / Maintenance Person
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, fit and competent applicant.
We look for a person with relevant mecha
nical trade and preferably with experience in operating graders and/or other machinery. Experience in ski area snowmaking would be beneficial. Must be able to work shifts in a cold and challenging environment with a love for the outdoors.
Groomer Operators
Duties include the operation and basic maintenance of snow groomers.
It is essential that applicants possess:
- A minimum of 3 winter seasons experience in the operation of winch snow groomers, grooming down hill ski slopes and terrain parks.
- Working knowledge of heavy machinery and a strong mechanical aptitude.
A ‘can do’ attitude and not afraid of hard work to achieve the task at hand.
Ski Patrollers / Snow Safety
Duties include: ensuring a safe and enjoyable ski area environment for all guests and staff. To maintain and promote the highest possible standards of service, safety and professionalism. It is essential that applicants possess:
- Professional Ski Patrol/ Snow safety experience
- Pre-hospital Emergency Care qualification
- Avalanche Safety Stage Two qualification.
- Snow blasting approved handler certification
Live-In Cook
Must have current driver licence and experience in cooking for up to 15 people.
Driver
an experienced shuttle bus driver is required with a Class 2 and P licence plus a clean driving record.
Food & Beverage Staff
Full days or mornings only, must be experienced in food handling, food hygiene and preparation.
Car Park Attendant (part-time)
Assist guests with parking, must be prepared to work every weekend and during the school holidays.
PART-TIME POSITIONS
We are looking for lift operators, ticket office staff, ski hire staff, cafeteria staff and qualified instructors for half day and full day work, especially on weekends and during the holidays.
All applicants must be committed to work on a roster system throughout the season.

We only accept applications by our email on-line application form. All applications must be received by 15 May 2010.
Please send a cover letter with your current curriculum vitae. Additionally, please state if you want a full-time or part-time position, part-time means weekend and holidays only.
For the Ski & Snowboard School please attach a photocopy of relevant qualifications, plus a photograph.
All overseas applicants need to send a recent passport-type photograph plus a copy of your work visa.
We are only able to help fully qualified instructors, patrollers and groomer operators to obtain a work permit. Please note that the position of ‘Instructors’ and ‘Ski Technician’ is on our Immediate Skill Shortage List, so you can apply for a visa directly through your nearest NZ Embassy.
All others need to get a working holiday visa before we can consider the application (does not apply to NZ or Australian residents).

The visas can be applied for through the New Zealand Embassy of your country. Note that the visa must be applied for in your home country - working holiday visas are not issued once you are in New Zealand.

Interviews: All applicants from New Zealand & overseas (except instructors) need to be available for a personal interview in Christchurch in early May. We do not offer phone interviews.
Pay rates: Pay rates start at $12.50 per hour. Hours of work and length of employment can vary with weather and snow conditions. We only employ people who can make a commitment for the entire season. During the peak season most full-time employees can expect to work 5 days per week for 40 hours.
Accommodation: We can assist staff in finding accommodation in the Springfield area, though all employees are responsible for finding their own accommodation for the season unless otherwise specified by management. Transport from Springfield to and from the ski area is provided.
